Podcast: Unplugging at Family-Friendly Basin Harbor on Lake Champlain

Basin Harbor is a place to unwind, disconnect, and be in the moment.

The summer resort is known for its lakeside cottages, tranquil setting, and family-friendly vibe. Owned by the Beach family, Basin Harbor was started in 1886 by Ardelia Beach in West Ferrisburgh along Lake Champlain.

Family member Sarah Morris grew up at Basin Harbor in the 1990s, making lifelong friends and developing a strong work ethic under the guidance of her parents, Pennie Beach and the late Peter Morris. She attended Cornell University and worked in the hospital industry before returning home to the resort 10 years ago.

Now a fifth-generation host at the resort, Sarah Morris can be found helping guests in the dining room, answering questions in the main lobby, and everything in between. As she thinks about the future, she looks to what makes the resort special.

“I was on a call the other day and someone said, ‘The past is becoming the future.’ That really resonated with me. We don’t have televisions here. A lot of the traditional elements of vacationing with your family still exist here,” she says. “In a world where we’re all disconnected by our devices and work leaks into our home life, we offer a place where people can truly get away. I think holding on to that is the future for Basin Harbor.”
