Want to know how to find the best general stores? It’s the ones the locals go to everyday for coffee, conversation, a breakfast sandwich, or lunch.

Sometimes the really good general stores are hiding in plain sight. It’s not always the fanciest stores. It’s often the opposite.

You just have to go inside and pay attention. You’ll know a good store when you see it. Look around and listen, and then you’ll feel it.

I visited Poultney in late March for the Fifth Season Race and Ride. It gave me a chance to learn more about the fabric of this Rutland County town and to spend time with some incredible people.

I didn’t realize how many observatories were in Vermont until I started researching about all the different locations. Any guesses what towns have observatories?

So, yes, the eclipse will be here in less than a week.

But in the months after the eclipse, you can still explore the magnificent skies at star parties, special viewings and educational events hosted by astronomy clubs and local observatories across the state.

I sometimes forget how beautiful Route 30 is to dr

I sometimes forget how beautiful Route 30 is to drive. I love how it winds though small towns and rolls past covered bridges, town halls and general stores.

The road extends from Middlebury to Brattleboro. On Friday, I stopped by a bunch of general stores, a bakery, bookstore, and market between Dorset and Newfane on Route 30.
