Local Flavor at Floyds General Store

Floyds General Store in Randolph Center is a no-frills kind of place. Established in 1843, the store offers veterinarian supplies, groceries, maple syrup, deli sandwiches and dry cleaning. Owner Al Floyd inherited the country store from his father in 1979. He’s done a nice job maintaining the store’s old Vermont vibe.
Floyds General Store doesn’t accept credit cards, but there’s an ATM inside. Al Floyd is particularly proud of the store’s 1912 cash register that he uses for all transactions.
In the back of the store, there’s an antique Sylvan Acorn potbellied stove that’s no longer hooked up. Still, locals and visitors sit in rocking chairs around it to drink coffee, chat and soak up the atmosphere.
We sat near the stove on a recent summer afternoon, eating ice cream and enjoying our time together. Years from now, I’ll always remember how I felt right at home in this timeless corner of Vermont.

Posted at 09:11h, 23 Octoberas a Preteen back in the late 70’s and early 80’s my family camped at Lake Champagne Campground right around the corner and made many a purchase at Floyd’s. So glad to hear that this peice of my childhood is still operating. Hope to pay a visit one day soon.
