Vermont's A&W Drive-In

The A&W Drive-In is Vermont's last surviving carhop. Located on Route 7 south of Middlebury, this 1960s roadside spot is open only during the summer months.

Last weekend I stopped by the A&W and ordered a cheeseburger, fries and root beer float. I had been driving for a couple of hours and was tired of being in the car, so I opted to dine at one of the drive-in's picnic tables instead. Maybe a burger and fries don't add up to be the healthiest meal, but the food was tasty and the view of the mountains was perfect.

  2. I love the car hop. I so miss visiting Vermont. My husband and I use to live in Magog, Quebec, Canada which is just north of Newport, Vermont. We use to spend a lot of time in Vermont as it was only a half an hour away. But sadly we have moved to Ontario and now it is a nine hour drive. The good news we are close to New York State. Last year we spent time in the Alleghany National State Park. It was great! But we still love Vermont!!

    When I was a kid I went to one but it wasn't a car hop. At least not that I recall. I still remember having a cheeseburger, onion rings, and a rootbeer. Surely it would never taste as good now as my mind remembers it.

  4. Stewart's in New Jersey, Erica. And it's a California burger, onion rings, and just plain root beer in a frosted mug. Pure heaven.
