Perkins Pier in Burlington

A place I love to visit in Burlington is Perkins Pier on Lake Champlain. With views of the Adirondack Mountains in the distance, I can spend countless hours here admiring sailboats and powerboats out in the harbor and docked near the shore.

Located at the foot of King Street, this city-owned marina and park includes canoe, kayak and boat rentals, seasonal boat slips, a picnic area and playground.

Perkins Pier is named after Dr. Charles N. Perkins, a physician who was born in Burlington in 1880. Perkins was also a Burlington city alderman who was passionate about protecting Lake Champlain and making it a resource for everyone. Shortly after his death in 1959, the area - previously known as the Old Salt Dock - was renamed Perkins Pier in his honor.

I am very thankful for all of the things I have in life -- my husband, my family, my friends, my job and my health. But honestly, sometimes I really wish I had a boat.
