Eggs, Sheep, and a Barn in Underhill

I've driven by this little farm in Underhill dozens of times. For some reason, it's just one of those places I've always had a good feeling about.

When I stopped by to take some photos last week, a woman who owns the farm greeted me and told me a little bit about the barn and her animals.

She then invited me to check out the sheep, and I foolishly approached the flock too quickly and scared them off. So I waited by the fence for 15 minutes, hoping to regain their trust. Eventually, they came out of hiding and looked right at my camera.

  1. Erica: Could you help me and my wife find jobs up there? We could so relocate and live this lower-key kind of life. Local milk, cheese, meats, vegetables,wood-burning stove, the whole Vermont way of life.....sigh. And we could sail the boat on Lake Champlain, happily. I would, however, need to get used to the black flies in summer! Never say never I've always been told.

  2. Baydog -- The black flies aren't so bad, and I'm sure you would get used to them pretty quickly. The Vermont way of life is pretty nice. Winters can be a little tough sometimes, but overall we've got a good thing going up here. Send me your resumes and I'll see what I can do:)

  3. Great old farm Erica! You know I like it ; )

Look at the lambs, aren't they adorable. The momma sheep seem a little skeptical of you, yet curious at the same time. Glad you stopped by instead of driving by!

  5. Hi Sharon - The lambs were so sweet. The mom was definitely protective and she kept an eye on me.

  7. I like the composition of your last photo - so interesting with its different components. It captures and recaptures my eye and my interest. Also, that old barn in Underhill is fascinating - looks like attached silos in the front. It's wonderful what we can find as we wander around.

  8. Hi Chris,

Thanks so much. I'm so glad you like that last photo. The barn had so many great details, so it was fun to photograph. It reminded me of a little house.

Yes, the Cloverdale Barn is really cool. I'm trying to track down more info about it.

    Take care!
