One of my favorite places in Vermont is Equinox Pond, a scenic and peaceful spot located near the base of Mount Equinox in Manchester. Whenever I'm in Manchester (my hometown), I try to set aside some time to walk around the pond and admire the natural beauty of this special area. The land surrounding the pond is part of the Equinox Preservation Trust, which was established in 1996 and includes more than 914 acres of protected land along the slopes of Mount Equinox.
The preserve offers a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities for every season. A one-mile walking trail loops around the pond while horseback riding, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking are permitted on the preserve's designated trails. Swimming and boating are not allowed here, and fishing requires permission from the Equinox Resort.
And last but not least: dogs (well-behaved ones anyway) are welcome.

I love Manchester and Dorset.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my Adirondack View! We're waving at each other across the "pond"... I especially like your shot of the old house up in the Champlain Islands. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteHi Steve -- I love Manchester and Dorset too. It will always be my home.
ReplyDeleteCedar -- Thanks! That old house on Isle La Motte is spooky but intriguing.
That top photo is great.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is very special spot.
Awesome photos makes me homesick for VT.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Thank you! I used to live in Boston and felt the same way when I looked at photos of Vermont! Take care.
ReplyDeleteErica, your photo of Equinox Pond is beautiful! My daughter is getting married at the site in early October, 2011.
ReplyDeleteWould you know where we could get some information on the time of sunset? The information would be helpful to schedule the ceremony, photos, etc.
Thank you for any help you can provide and I love your site.
Hi Anonymous -
ReplyDeleteEquinox Pond is such a beautiful spot -- a wonderful place for a wedding!
Mount Equinox sits directly above the pond, and the sun sets over the mountain. Depending on when the wedding date is scheduled, the sun will set anytime from about 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 to 5:40 p.m. on Oct. 31 (I went to www.timeanddate.com and looked for sunset times for Montpelier, VT - the capital of VT).
The Equinox Resort, which handles weddings at the Pond, could give you some more specific suggestions.
Also, Lee Krohn is a wonderful wedding photographer based in
Manchester. He is very familiar with photographing Equinox Pond and
might be able to give you some helpful hints for photography.
His website is http://www.leekrohnphoto.com/
Let me know if you have other questions.
Based on this post, I made it a point to visit here last September. It was beautiful, and an easy walk that anyone can enjoy. Thanks for highlighting this little gem!
ReplyDelete@Scott - I'm so glad you made it to Equinox Pond. It's such a special place -- one of my all-time favorites.
